An E-Bike Experience: Austrian Mountains
Imagine gliding effortlessly along the Austrian bike trails and cycle lanes, surrounded by picturesque mountains and lush greenery, in the summer sunshine. It's an experience like no other, especially when you have the power of a mid-mount motor powered e-bike to assist you.
What makes the e-bike experience in the mountains so special?
Austria is a country that clearly prioritises cycling, with well-maintained bike trails and cycle lanes that cater to all levels of riders. There’s cyclists everywhere in Austria, and most we saw were e-bikes, and it’s clear to see why. An e-bike with a mid-mounted motor takes the experience to a whole new level, providing up to 70% of the power in Turbo mode, and around 20% in the low assist mode (if you want more of a workout!). This means you can conquer steep climbs with relative ease and enjoy the ride without breaking a sweat (well, not much in summer temperatures!). If an e-bike can make light work of the mountains of Austria, then it proves the case for the rolling hills of the UK.
Why choose a mid-mount motor e-bike?
I had the recent pleasure of riding a KTM Macina Team 772 hard tail e-bike with a mid-mounted motor. It was a great if not relatively short 12 mile ride up and over a ridge behind the picturesque town of Maria Alm (near Zell-am-See), with the motor seamlessly assisting on uphill sections relative to the torque applied. The ride was incredibly smooth and enjoyable on the gravelly and twisty cycle tracks. A mid-mount motor was well-suited to this terrain with it's higher torque compared to hub mounted motors (which are great for more flat rides, commuting and city riding).
